Intellectual property protection cost reimbursement in 2025
In business, intellectual property is not only one of the most sensitive parts of business capital but also a strategic investment that allows startups and large organizations to stand out and strengthen their position in both local and international markets.
The PREVENCE team can assist you with: applying for trademark or design registration, obtaining patent registration fee reimbursement, submitting the registration application, and ensuring comprehensive support to ensure that the intellectual property registration process runs as smoothly as possible.
If you’ve been considering registering your intellectual property, now is an excellent time to proceed and receive compensation for registration costs.
The State Patent Bureau has announced that the SME Fund project for 2025 is being updated, which provides financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) aiming to protect their intellectual property. Applications can be submitted now, and we recommend submitting them as soon as possible, as the fund’s resources are often exhausted before the deadline.
According to EUIPO data, nearly 70,000 SMEs in the European Union have already benefited from this project, receiving financial support for intellectual property protection at the national, EU, and international levels.
One of the main eligibility criteria to receive compensation (a grant) is that the company must meet the definition of a small or medium-sized enterprise as outlined in the EU recommendation.
Below, we share the list of criteria for companies that may be eligible for reimbursement of trademark registration fees:
It is important to note that an SME can be any business entity, regardless of its legal form. Therefore, this funding can also be received by sole proprietors (individuals engaged in self-employment) or farmers.
What compensation amount can be received?
One of the most important steps in protecting intellectual property is trademark or design registration. By using EU funds, each SME can receive up to EUR 700 for the reimbursement of trademark and design registration costs. This amount can be used to cover 75% of the costs of national or EU trademark or design registration, and 50% of the costs for registration outside the EU under the Madrid or Hague systems.
The SME fund is limited, so once all the funds are used, the submission of applications will be suspended and will resume only next year.
Although intellectual property protection was traditionally seen as a “luxury,” we are pleased that our clients are increasingly recognizing the importance of intellectual property protection and are choosing to protect their intellectual property (trademarks, designs) in Lithuania, the EU, and other countries.
